A Super Bowl Story

Not your typical update but it does reflect the passage of time, for this ageing aficionado!

A Super Bowl Story

A 30 second spot at the Super Bowl, will set you back a cool $4M dollars.
Small change.

30 years ago, I worked for Apple and signed the check (cheque) payable to the advertising agency Chiat-Day, for a one minute spot, that aired on Super Bowl Sunday, January 24, 1984. In the afterglow of that commercial, I knew I'd had a hand in something important but never fathomed what this singular event, would unleash. That check was for $1M.
Big change.

Today, along with the likes of Budweiser, GoldieBlox, the upstart toymaker for starting up girls to think differently about their future, scored one of those highly coveted 30 second spots. And in Obama's SOTU address he reminded us "....You know, today, women make up about half our workforce, but they still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. That is wrong, and in 2014, it's an embarrassment."
Socio-culturally, ENORMOUS change.
